Industrial Steam Cleaners: The Ultimate Guide

The Industrial Steam Cleaner

What are industrial steam cleaners?

Industrial steam cleaners are essentially larger steam cleaning machines, capable of a much higher heat and pressure.

The machines can vary from 230volt, 3kW to 3Phase machines well in excess of 54kW and the higher the wattage, the more powerful the heating element and the larger the boiler.

All of this combines to result in a higher volume of dry steam.  Dry steam is one of the most natural ways to clean and is an ideal alternative to more traditional cleaning methods using chemicals.

They are usually applied during deep cleaning jobs as they offer an advanced, economical method of cleaning.

How do steam cleaners work?

Similar to a pressure cooker; cold water is poured into the sealed boiler and is then heated until it boils at 100°C and creates a hot supply of steam. The heat can increase further and this steam then becomes superheated.

This dry steam can then be channelled through different steam cleaner heads (steam lances, squeegees, steam floor brushes etc.) The higher the temperature, the higher the pressure and the faster the steam is emitted.

What is dry steam?

Dry steam is called so because it contains very little moisture and/or water particles. The standard of dry steam dictates that it must not contain more than 5% moisture. The reason for this is that dry steam cannot possess any impurities, but water can.

Why are steam cleaners useful?

Using a steam cleaner will enable you to clean effectively and economically. Sanitising any tough stains and dirt with ease, an industrial steam cleaner allows you to clean almost any given surface.

What Can Industrial Steam Cleaners Be Used On?

Industrial steam cleaners can be applied to most different areas and surfaces for cleaning.

Kitchen Units & Surfaces:

Industrial steam cleaners can produce a higher volume of steam at a hotter steam temperature that reach up to 400°F. Laboratory tests have proven that dry steam will safely remove 99.99% of bacteria in the steaming process, more efficiently and environmentally friendly than the very best and expensive chemical cleaners.

Bathroom & Toilets:

Any stubborn lime scale, soap residue or grimy marks can be swiftly wiped away during a full steam clean.  Many steam cleaners will have a detail nozzle, built to reach much smaller places. Steam cleaning makes easy work of bathrooms, leaving your tiles, sinks, baths and toilets hygienic and naturally fresh.

Windows & Mirrors:

Using a steam cleaner’s microfiber cloth accessory or a dry steam window squeegee; windows and mirrors become a breeze to clean. It is advisable, however, to warm up these surfaces first before applying the steam cleaner directly.

Stainless Steel:

Keep your stainless steel surfaces sparkling clean with no streaks or grease to dampen the shine by using a microfiber cloth when you steam clean this type of surface.  This way, you can easily keep the surface grease free by occasionally replacing the cloth head.

Laminates & Hard Floors:

Before you clean any hard floor, ensure that any larger debris has been removed. Working in small sections and with a microfiber cloth attached to the floor brush, clean the surface of the floor in the same way you would use a standard mop. Ensure you check the floor brush regularly during the clean to ensure it is free of debris.

Furniture:

The days of a vacuum cleaner and sponge scrubbing will be a thing of the past when you apply a steam cleaner to stained, old or marked furniture. Steam cleaners can also remove tough chewing gum deposits but always test a small inconspicuous area first to ensure colour fastness of any material to be cleaned.

Tile Grouting:

With steam cleaners, you can attach a nozzle to the steam gun to detail clean any small or hard to reach areas, further utilising a brush if required. It is the best way to clean tiles and grouting. Afterwards, be sure to wipe dry the tile surfaces after with a microfiber cloth or use the window squeegee attachment

When cleaning silicone sealants, always ensure the steam is not applied for too long so as to avoid the risk of damaging the sealant properties.

Clothing:

Using the correct clothing nozzle, steam cleaner systems can freshen up general clothes; removing creases, hairs, lint and odours without the need for an iron or heated press.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are available for most cleaning tasks upon request.
