How does a steam cleaner work?
Using only a small amount of tap water, a steam cleaner creates a low moisture vapour that carries heat to the surface you wish to treat.
Steam cleaners will loosen dirt and baked-on mess. They work so well because the heat from the steam emulsifies the dirt, coupled with light agitation from a brush or mop lifts the emulsified soiling away from the surface. A final wipe with a microfibre cloth results in a clean, sanitised surface.
What is 'Dry' Steam Vapour?
Steam is called 'dry' if it only contains around 5% to 6% water and is much less dense than the air we breath. The temperature at which the water is boiled is high enough to kill bacteria and germs, emulsify grease and oil as well as other surface contaminants.
Steam cleaning will definitely help with controlling dust mites. Dust mites die at 130°F and the steam at the tip of most cleaners is usually over 200°C. Steam cleaning does not prevent dust mites from coming back, so for consistent results you should consider steam cleaning your mattress about every 8 weeks.
What can I use a steam cleaner on?
Dry steam cleaning can be used on practically any surface except for those surfaces that are extremely heat sensitive. Surfaces such as silks, some very thin plastics, and some types of velour upholstery must be treated with great care.
Which type of surfaces are suitable for steam cleaning?
Vapour steam cleaning can be used on almost any hard or soft surface including: hardwood floors, counter tops, bathrooms, windows, grout, tile, upholstered furniture, curtains, bed spreads, auto interiors, and even stuffed animals. Most steam vapour cleaners come with a variety of attachments for different types of cleaning jobs.
When steaming carpets or upholstered furniture, wait until the surface is dry (about 15 minutes) and then vacuum with a HEPA vacuum cleaner to pick up all the dead dust mites and other dirt the steam cleaner loosened and pulled to the surface.
If you are using vapour steam cleaning on carpet, follow with a HEPA vacuum cleaner after it is dry to remove the waste that the vapour steam cleaner loosened and released during cleaning. Most steam cleaners have no method, other than cloths or bonnets, to extract debris.
Where does the water go?
The water is put into a special tank or boiler that super heats the water and changes it into hot dry steam. The unique benefit of our steam cleaners is that they produce a low moisture, high temperature steam that carries only about 6% water. We like to call this Dry steam because so little water is left behind and so little is used.
Do I need detergents in combination with steam?
In most cases, you do not need detergents, but for specialist applications such as gum removal a detergent might be required. The cleaning process can also be accelerated in some cases using a detergent combined with steam. OspreyDeepclean therefore offer manufacturer approved detergents, which can be used in combination with our steam technology. With the OspreyDeepclean dry steam technology the highest cleaning results are achieved.
What are benefits of using dry steam cleaners?
They are eco-friendly in using only water and heat to clean. They don’t leave behind toxic residue or stain clothing like some cleaning agents can.
They kill bacteria and germs. Bacteria such as e-coli, listeria, and salmonella are killed upon contact with the use of steam cleaners, as well as viruses, mildew, and dust mites. They are very versatile and with the right attachments can be used nearly anywhere on any surface.
